Ingredients:

  • 1 15 oz. can no-salt added black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free or whole wheat bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • sea salt and pepper to taste
  • Hot sauce, to taste
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 4 whole grain or gluten-free hamburger rolls
  • 4 green lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

Directions:

Put beans in a large bowl and mash well with a fork. Add egg whites, yellow onion, bread crumbs, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper and hot sauce, if using. Mix well and shape into 4 patties.

heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange patties in a single layer and cook, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 10 minutes total. Transfer to buns, top with lettuce, tomatoes and red onion. Serve
